Lodève has a rich history and heritage. It lies on a route to Saint James of Compostella, a fact which fostered its development over the centuries. Numerous signs of this development of the town, which is a designated "Ville d'Art et d'Histoire". You can take time to discover Saint Fulcran cathedral, an example of Languedoc gothic architecture, the mediaeval buildings, the 17th century mansions, and the works by sculptor Paul Dardé.
The town's art museum, which houses a collection of contemporary works and periodically hosts major exhibitions, is cultural counterpoint to the geographical and natural offerings of the area.
