Abbaye de Valmagne

This Cistercian abbey (XIIth - XIVth cen.) is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in France. The majesty of the gothic church, the purity of the chapterhouse, the cloister and its exquisitely charming fountain form an outstanding architectural heritage. The enchantment is prolonged in gardens planted with roses and medieval herbs. Follow the paths of the vine-plant conservatory to discover the wine history of the abbey, culmi­nating in a wine-tasting of their present-day production. This magnificent and protected setting hosts the restaurant of the Frère Nonenque, many exhibitions and a summer music festival.

The sumptuous Château-Abbaye de Cassan rises from the midst of vineyards and olive groves. A modest monastic retreat which became a powerful royal priory then a sumptuous princely dwelling, the castle houses a vast Romanesque church (XIIth cen.) and an abbey palace (XVIIIth cen.), warranting the name of the little Versailles of Langue­doc. Here, the past breathes through the welcoming coolness a secular stonework. This historical site is a genuine showcase for a number of cultural events.

The Scénovision Molière is a show in five rooms using the last 3D and surround sound technologies. It offers an original journey in which visitors discover the life of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin also known as Molière. Young audience and adults will be thrilled by the set of the rooms and the emotions which come from these screenings where historic truth and passion of the stage are wherever you look. Jardin de Saint Adrien - Servian

These medieval basalt quarries have been transformed into a spectacu­lar landscaped garden of 4 hectares (about 10 acres)-a genuine oasis where the volcanic rock is now surrounded by a lush vegetation and cool stretches of water. The sky and the earth lead you to discover the garden step by step : an extraordinary diversity of plant species and rock, light and water are used to create a series of remarkable natural scenes. Listed as « Jardin Remarquable » by the Ministry of Culture. Listed in the top five «Parcs de France» in 2003 by the Association of Journalists of Gardening and Horticulture. Bonpland Award in 2000, given by the National Society of Horticulture of France.

Noilly Prat

The famous Noilly Prat has been produced on the Mediterranean coast for almost 200 years according to a mysterious and unaltered ritual. Thousands of barrels containing light and fruity wines are exposed to the elements, side by side, in an outdoor enclosure, to age slowly to the rythmn of the seasons before being transferred to the « Room of Secrets », where the precious liquid will macerate, according to a well kept secret of proportioning, with twenty-odd aromatic herbs from around the world : camomile, coriander, nutmeg, quinquina, cloves...

This two-storey modern architectural complex is a center for wine tou­rism. The visitor is invited to discover, taste and eventually buy wines of the region. The upper level where one can find a Mediterranean restau­rant, "Alex's Bistro", is floored in glass to give the visitor a view of the ageing barrel. This upper level is a «high-tech» wine cellar equipped with interactive terminals on the theme of wine, presenting all aspects of vines and wine-making. Vinipolis regularly hosts various events : wine-tastings, visits, exhibitions...

Château de Flaugergues


Château de Flaugergues is a magnificent seventeenth century 'folie. It was developed and embellished by Etienne de Flaugergues. A quarter of the château is given over to a three-floor staircase of rare elegance, a one-of-a-kind feature with a dropped keystone and no pillars supporting it. The château contains furniture of the XVIIIth, seventeenth century Flemish tapestries and a collection of high quality porcelain and ear­thenware. The château is surrounded with an important remarkable gar­den with diverse spaces and botanical collections. this idyllic and warm setting hosts the restaurant Folia and its fine cooking of the market.

Les Demoiselles caves

A veritable underground cathedral, this immense, magical natural cave abounds with gigantic and strangely beautiful concretions, guardians of the secrets of geological time. This astounding voyage into the bowels of the earth leads one through narrow passages opening onto vast halls adorned with weirdly shaped and beautifully draped concretions.
The site has been nominated for classification by UNESCO as a World Heritage.

Lodève Museum, Cardinal de Fleury's mansion

Set up in the Cardinal de Fleury's family mansion, this elegant building is typical from the mansions of the XVII and XVIII century of the area. The museum is divided into two kinds of collections : a collection of earth sciences and archeology and a collection of fine arts wich displays nu­merous contemporary artists. Great summer exhibitions are organized each year as Bonnard or Kinsling and, in 2011, the exhibition is dedica­ted to Louis Valtat « Valtat, at dawn to the fauvism », from the 2nd of June to the 16th of October.

 
Prieuré Saint Michel de Grandmont - Soumont
Saint-Michel de Grandmont Priory

Set amongst pines and evergreen oaks, this jewel of Medieval Ages architecture (XIIth cen.) is the only monastery of the friars of the Order of Grandmont that has been preserved in its entirety : church, cloister and convent buildings. Surrounded by a vast animal reserve, the priory buildings spirituality mingles with the mystery of prehistoric dolmens and megaliths. This site full of history is often the backdrop for cultural events.

In the heart of the « Grand Site de France Saint Guilhem-le-Désert - Gorges de l'Hérault », on the banks of the Herault river, facing the arches of the venerable Pont du Diable (Devil's Bridge), Argileum, the pottery house, invites visitors to enter the potters saga. An interactive course in a genuine workroom will make you dive into the captivating history of ceramics. Opening scheduled in July.

Classified Scientific and picturesque Site by the Ministry of Ecology of the Sustainable development and the sea, the Clamouse Cave is a major and unmissable tourist site in Languedoc. Real museum of the underground world, Clamouse conceals the biggest variety of concre­tions, eccentric, aragonites and fistulous abound and glisten in gigantic spaces magnificently revealed by environment-friendly LED lightings. In the heart of a shelf of scrublands, the valley of Fontcaude shelters a sacred spring where canons established themselves in 1154. Perfectly restored, the abbey is a jewel of the Romanesque art in Languedoc. Abbey church, convent, museum of sculptures, foundry of bells (XIIth cen.), oil mill lead the visitor to contemplation. Stopping-off point on a road of Santiago de Compostela, the abbey welcomes concerts of Gregorian chants.
The abbey and its accesses are classified sites.

 
Site Archéologique et Musée d'Enserune - Nissan lez Enserune
Site archéologique et musée d'Ensérune

The site of Ensérune is a gaulish village, one of the most important ci­tadels of the Mediterranean Midi. The excavations, which have been underway since 1915, have revealed the remains of a dwelling dating back to the middle of the 6th century BC and lasting until the start of the 1st century AD. All the archeological objects discovered on the site have been put on display in the museum which is home to a number of outstanding collections. Admire also the wonderful view over the Montady pond.
