tourist offices and information points | CASTRIES
A short distance from Montpellier and set on a hill, Castries benefits, on its northern flank, from a superb natural setting of vineyards and garrigue reaching to the Cévennes. Towards the South, the town has view over an agricultural plain, the 'étang de l'Or' and the azure of the Mediterranean shore.
On approaching, the traveller sees, emerging from the horizon, the imposing silhouette of the castle with its glazed roof tiles and its Renaissance facades. Built with the golden-hued local stone, this magnificent edifice stands guard over the heart of the village. Castries impresses, astonishes and captivates visitors with its exceptional architecture – an ensemble consisting of the castle, a beautiful French garden and a monumental aqueduc.
