park / garden / forest / nature reserve | LAVERUNE
A classified historical monument, the 'Chateau de l'Engarran' is a 18th century 'folie' in a French-style park and thoroughly deserves its designation of 'beauté languedocienne'. Designed by a pupil of Le Nôtre, the park covers 3 hectares and alternates boxwood, basins and statues. There is also a buffet of water, stone vases and a bestiary. In a verdant setting at the entrance of Montpellier, its wrought ironwork gate alone is a masterpiece and well worth a visit to see. Private property since 1923, visits are conducted from the exterior and the park, and only by appointment.
