museum / ecomuseum | SAINT-PONS DE THOMIERES
The new regional museum of prehistory is located opposite the cathedral - the old abbey church founded in 936 by Count Pons of Toulouse. The entrance hall houses temporary exhibitions. Visitors will see there illustrated panels depicting the history of man and a comparative chronology of civilisations. In the exhibition room, display cases show items from the Neolithic people who inhabited the Bois des Albières region, specifically the Camprafaud Grotto. Also exhibited are pieces from Saintponien (3500-2300 BC) discovered in the cave of Resplandy. Videos show scenes of everyday life in Neolithic times. Probably the most stunning moment of your visit will be a scene
featuring 9 menhirs (standing stones).
