The Val de Gellone with its vertical cliffs is set in a landscape of stone and sky. At its heart nestles the legendary city of Saint Guilhem Le Désert whose ancient alleyways have been lit and shaded by the Languedoc sun for 12 centuries. Its houses, overlapping each other and capped with roofing tiles hardened by the sun and the weight of ages, are not particularly unusual, but they all have traces of their past - arcatures, lintels, gemelled windows... Follow the Tourist Information Centre guides through this magnificent medieval village listed 'Grand Site' and discover the Gellone Abbey, registered on the Patrimoine Mondial de l'Humanité (world heritage site) by Unesco under the title 'Saint Jacques de Compostelle'.
