museum / ecomuseum | MONTPELLIER

The Fabre museum is an astounding work of art, an innovative combination of classic and contemporary architecture. It offers over 800 works, 900 engravings and 3.500 drawings in its 9,200 m2 exhibit area.
It is one of the biggest museums in France. It holds Flemish, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and French collections, painters of the great European schools of the 16th to the 18th centuries (Zurbaran, Reynolds, Tenier, Veronese...) and of the French schools (Greuze, Ingres, Delacroix, Courbet, Bazille...), ceramics and sculptures, contemporary paintings...
Since 2010, the Cabrières-Sabatier d'Espeyran's mansion from the 19th century hosts the new Decorative Arts Department of the Montpellier's Fabre Museum - a historic residence that gives visitors a chance to discover the lifestyle of 18th and 19th century bourgeois and aristocratic society. Having entirely preserved the furnishings and decorations of these apartments, the mansion offers the only collection of its kind in any French decorative arts museum.
